Raising Great Kids Community Speaker Series kicks off on October 20
October 20, 2015 - April 29, 2016
Now in its third year, the “Raising Great Kids” Speaker Series continues to provide Council Rock parents and community members insight and practical advice on issues facing our youth today including Anxiety, Internet Safety, and Substance Abuse prevention.
The “Raising Great Kids” Series kicks off on October 20, 7 pm at Council Rock North with Dr. Katherine Dahlsgaard leading a discussion about Student Anxiety–how to help your child cope with stress. “Student anxiety is a big issue for families these days,” says Dr. Lambert, CRSD Director of Special Services, “but when provided with appropriate information and strategies, parents can help kids learn how to handle these emotions in a healthy way – skills that they will use throughout their entire lifetime.”
Clinical Director of the Anxiety Behaviors Clinic at the Department of Child and adolescent Psychiatry at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Dr. Dahlsgaard is a frequent consultant and speaker to parent groups and educators throughout the region.
Presented by the Council Rock Education Foundation and the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth (CRCHY), this is the second year that The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has joined in supporting this series as a Community Sponsor. “We are excited to bring this information to the local community,” said Peter Grollman, Vice President of Government Affairs, Community Relations & Advocacy at CHOP, “CHOP is pleased to support programs that improve the lives of children in their communities and beyond the walls of our 50 locations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The ‘Raising Great Kids’ Community Speaker Series is an impactful way for us to this.”
The series also includes a presentation on Internet Safety issues by FBI Special Agent Cerena Coughlin; How to Find the Perfect “Fit” College, presented by Francine Block; a hands-on session for parents on popular social media apps Instagram & Snapchat as well as Matt Bellace speaking on positive approaches to substance abuse prevention in teens.
The Raising Great Kids series is open to the whole community, not just Council Rock parents. Register online or RSVP to CRCHY@crsd.org. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
